When compared to conventional gravity sewer systems, low pressure sewer systems are a cost effective option for communities where a number of construction challenges may present. Low pressure sewer systems are more flexible and dynamic when designed in conjunction with other services. Low pressure sewer systems can be installed to avoid costly obstacles like rock or sensitive native vegetation.
Furthermore the low pressure sewer pipework is more cost effective to install when compared to gravity pipework networks.
No risk of storm water infiltration to a pressure system. The nature of a low pressure system makes it impossible for storm water or groundwater to leak into as is common for gravity pipework.
Easier and cheaper to install in townships that are constructed. Low pressure sewer pipework is smaller in diameter, doesn’t need to be graded as gravity is, doesn’t need to be installed as deep as gravity pipework, and as such is less disruptive to road ways and footpaths.
Low pressure systems require less (if any at all) main pump stations than gravity systems. Main pump stations can service hundreds of homes and can waste valuable real-estate. They are a critical risk point for operators and utilities, are often located in sensitive environmental locations, and hence can have increased risks to the environment and communities. Low pressure sewer systems control and isolate prohibited waste products for sewer systems in homeowners sumps. For example; wet wipes, fats, glass, and plastics if discharged by homeowners will be captured in the individual sump.
